Capturing new realities, Immortalizing old landscapes
I am an ecological artist and trained ecologist dividing my time between Kugluktuk (Nunavut) and Mayo (Yukon). My work is rooted in the northern landscapes I call home. Using raw natural materials—most often charcoal collected from burned spruce—I create artworks that allow visitors to take a genuine piece of Northern Canada with them.
My practice explores environmental themes, with a particular focus on the Boreal Forest, one of Earth’s most ecologically vital ecosystems. Wildfires, though a natural force of renewal, are becoming increasingly severe, threatening wildlife through the loss of critical habitat. By transforming the physical remnants of fire into visual narratives, I aim to draw attention to the urgency of these ecological changes.
Through my art, I hope to deepen the viewer’s connection to the land, raise awareness about the fragility and resilience of the Boreal Forest, and inspire meaningful action on behalf of our planet.
